[Solved] Capitalize the first letter in a cell

Post by fred6633 »

Hello, I use 3.01.

Is there a way to force Calc to capitalize the first letter in a cell without having to press the Skift key.
I have enabled the option "Capitalize first letter of sentence", but it has only effect on the second sentence in a cell.

Thanks

Fred

Sorry, it's not possible.

The option you mentioned is shared between Calc and Writer, but where, in Writer, it's a useful function, it's unwanted in Calc most of the time. So the developers arrived at the odd compromise you've noted.

You could enter the text in Writer (in a table) and then copy/paste into Calc. Writer may offer other benefits if you have a lot of prose to type.

You can also copy/paste the text from Calc into Writer and use search/replace or apply autocorrection to fix the lower case first letters. I can't think of any way to do that in Calc directly.

Well thanks for the answer but, why in the world would not not want to be able to capitalize the first letter in a cell. I'm stuck with the same issue. In my case I have a spreadsheet where I save passwords which sometimes begin with a capital letter. The only work around I've found that works is to put a space before the first word and then I can use a capital letter. Very frustrating and aggravating.

Put an apostrophe before the first letter. It will disappear after hitting Enter.
Or turn off Tools>CellContent>AutoCorrect
