Installation Files
Installation Files
Is it necessary to keep the installation files that were extracted from the .exe I downloaded? (OpenOffice 2.3). Strange thing is, I originally downloaded this software and only installed Writer and Calc, but after trying these programs and being impressed, I decided to install the entire suite. To do this, I re-downloaded the install file and extracted to the same place (desktop), ran the installer and it stopped, telling me the program was already installed. I then went to add/remove programs and tried to modify the install from there but that didnt work either. I ended up having to uninstall the entire program and reinstall. No big deal but I was wondering if it was becasue I deleted the original install files and redownloaded them. I would rather not keep the setup files on my HD. Will this make updating the program impossible in the future (not adding new features but updating with future patches)?
Re: Installation Files
I do not know what caused your problems, but it wasn't removing the install files. I always remove them and have never had a problem with upgrading. The installer really should remove those files automatically, the way it works now is messy.
