Convert formula results to values

Post by gwhitcomb »

I'm an experienced Quattro Pro user and know how to convert the result of a formula in a cell to an absolute value, so that the range of cells in the formula can be deleted without losing the result.

I can't find out how to do it in scalc! Have tried the help file, have searched for my question in this forum with no result. Would someone please help? I'm using OpenOffice 3.0.1, Windows XP.

I would say copy then Edit>Paste Special (or CTRL+SHIFT+V) and then Value. But there may be a quicker way to do that (MS Excel has a nice Paste>Value option when you long click the paste icon.

Please don't use the green tick mark in your thread icon, it's for solved topics!

Thanks to add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

In the Mac version (3.0) there is no values option under paste special. Is there a different way to do this in the Mac version?

No Numbers entry in the Paste special dialog? Can you upload a screenshot?

Try clicking the arrow by the Paste icon and selecting Unformatted Text.

Hagar,
No Numbers entry in the Paste special dialog?
Check above. You said "Value", he said no "values" so literally he's correct but...

OK. I see. I had written that by memory. And I may be wrong with 'Numbers' because I'm not on my machine and that's a French UI. But... indeed it should not prevent the user from trying similar options in the dialog.

to convert formula to results or values on an open office spread sheet
http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=16595
use paste special and un-tick 'all values' and tick all others except "formula'

this does the same as paste special - Values on MicroMouse Excel
the latest result of the formula is fixed in the cell or cells thus pasted.
this is useful for keeping a record of values at a given time, date.
why is this not in the Help
open office 3.2.1
on Mac OS X Version 10.6.4
