Attempting to edit and save a Word 97/2000/XP DOC file in OpenOffice on a USB Flash Drive using Leopard comes with one of three error messages:
- the disk is full (which it is not...over 400 MB free)
- I don't have the permissions
- the file does not exist
Saving ODT files directly on the drive has no errors. Saving the DOC file on the hard drive first and then attempting to copy it over comes with the same set of errors.
Weird, huh?
Update: I think I figured it out. The file name cannot include spaces. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Cannot save DOC format on USB Flash Drive with spaces
Anyway, it's strongly advised to save first on the HD and then use the file browser to copy the file on the USB stick. USB transfer is far less reliable than HD access, if anything goes wrong during the transfer, you still have the file if you had saved it on the HD, else, nothing left. Several threads in this forum about files lost because of such direct save operation on external drive.
