Corrupted Writer file OOo 2.3

Post by trekian »

My daughter has been writing stories on writer and saving them as .odt files.

However 2 of them have now become corrupted. They open after the dialogue for ASCII filter options with headers then a lot of hash signs where the data should be.

She (and I) both use Acer Aspire Ones with Linpus Linux.

Sha has not tried to save in any other format but the native open office.

Does anybody have any idea what has happened?

She is not aware of having done anything unusual but I cannot be certain of that.

Thanks to any respondents

Regards

Weird indeed. Can you upgrade to latest 3.0.1? See the threads about Fedora for the commands to run.

Have you checked the backup folder in case there is copy (see [Tutorial] The OOo user profile)?

If the file is bringing up the "Filter Selection" dialog window, upgrading will not help--the file is corrupted, probably at the zip archive level where little can be done.

If you want to attach one of the files, we can take a look, but it's a long shot.

trekian,

Do you (by chance) still have the corrupted writer file? If so, then can you post it here? I'd like to analyze it to find out if I can see what happened. There may be a trend as per http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... &sk=t&sd=a
