Mail merge images, how?

How do I use mail merge to create form letters, catalogs etc. each personalized with different pictures? I'm looking for something similar to what's described here http://www.computorcompanion.com/LPMArticle.asp?ID=126

still not possible as far as I know. Feature request added at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87195.
Please vote for it.

The report builder extension can do this. Report builder is already installed with LibreOffice.
