New PC suggests words while typing

Post by windowshater »

Having a question, but first: Am back here, with OO, after a brief stint with libreoffice on the recommendation of ChatGPT ("better, more features, future-proof, blah blah"). Well, nope. Libre made me unproductive: it crashes EVERYTIME i merely search for some words (really, yeah, incredible, eh?), it can't even highlight text across pages (indeed, it stops highlighting at the bottom and won't keep going on the next page (uhh!), ...

None of the problems has OO. :super: Can only hope it remains future-proof. Further improvements not needed, just keep it available, please. :bravo:
As serial author you need OO, libre will only hold you up, was my conclusion.

Now, my Q, maybe someone of the other "Oldies" still here too.. So, after getting a new desktop (mini pc) and reinstalling OO, and DISABLING all "writing help" and spelling and stuff (classical authors don't use that), OO now nonetheless continues to suggest me words WHILE typing. Highly disturbing (obviously, it doesn't know my thoughts, no). I cannot find any further option to disable though?

Format, Autocorrect, While Typing - Done
Tools, Options, all options - Done
Even uninstalled all dictionaries - Done

OO magically still suggests to know words that it believes I wanna type, how comes?

OpenOffice never suggests words for you when typing. You have an operating system problem. Smells like AI slop. Disable the artificial intelligence features of your new computer's operating system. You should tell us what the operating system and version of this new PC is.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit ✏️ button and add [Solved] to the start of the Subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Thanks Hagar. Yes, under word completion, under localized options, and under options all unchecked (except URL recognition and such).
Without installed dictionaries I wonder how OO even knows words (so that it's able to suggest/complete them... :knock:

You seriously think "Back with the best! " other human users don't understand? :ugeek:

As for your issue, then indeed, it may be something linked to the AI feature of your new machine.
Your title had indeed no link with your issue. When browsing the forum index, we like to have the actual description of the problem. And when one is searching the forum, having the hits tell what is the issue helps to spot the relevant discussions. Else, every single topics would be something like "I need help".
For LO, I experienced the opposite: it did not crash anymore for big files that AOO was unable to handle. Having an application crashing all the time as you have experienced is not normal. There must be an underlying issue.

I didn't post, nor ever would, "i need help"
Far more will click my original title, out of curiosity or agreement.

As for the OOWriter topic, do you mean the latest downloads now default to AI integration?
My own system does not have any AI enabled. I do use AI daily but knowingly, on websites. That can't be fed into OOW, no, I highly doubt it.
But I will research "OO Writer AI"

OO does not have any AI integration.

It is possible your operating system (Windows or Ubuntu, as shown in your. sig) or some other application installed at system level (i.e,, outside of OpenOffice) has an AI link to your computer's installed language and is making "helpful" suggestions. You need to examine what applications are running when the problem occurs, with an investigation utility like TaskManager (in Ubuntu) or similar in Windows. I use Xubuntu which runs on most Ubuntu code, and have no such interference.

Not the mood of this forum. Users come here for answers, not to check the lives of others.

There is no AI integrated in Writer. If it's not your machine, then I don't know what it could be.
Can you upload a screenshot of what the suggestion looks like?

Here is how it is with LO:

Also, we expect that users search the forum before asking a question. In the Survival Guide for the forum, we ask people to use titles that describe the problem. So, if you don't stick to that, people with the same problem may not find your thread with, hopefully soon, a solution.

If your problem has been solved or your question has been answered, please edit the first post in this thread and add [Solved] to the title bar.
