Can the sidebar icons be moved to (top) function toolbar?

Post by NE Oh cat person »

Running Windows 11 and about 3-4 months ago, some icons disappeared from the function (top of the page) tool bar. I tried various suggestions from other posts to install only 3 oft used icons: currency (coins), paint can (color cells), and "A" underline (change font color). Nothing has worked and neither did F11. Even tried reformatting the toolbar with no success. Gave up but I updated to the 2023 version prior to writing this post. Now, the icons appear in a side toolbar, which wasn't there previously. I would like to move them back to their original location on the top, then remove the side bar. I don't do anything detailed/advanced with Office - extremely simple spreadsheets but use those 3 icons. No hyperlinks - don't even know what those are- or any such advanced procedures. Is it even possible to get these 3 icons back to the top toolbar? Seems simple but I'm having no luck. Thanks.

At the right end of the toolbar icons, there is a small downward pointing black triangle. Click on that and select Visible Buttons. You will then see a list of all the possible buttons for that toolbar and be able to to activate the ones that are missing.

But it' strange they hava vanished at all.
You could try to reset your OpenOffice user profile if you want to return to the brand new settings.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the button if your issue has been fixed.

I tried the restting to my OpenOffice user profile. Didn't change anything. When I right clicked on the down triangle, went to Visible Buttons, the paint can, underscored A, and currency icons don't even show up. I aggree with Hagar & was shocked when I realized those three were gone, then to find a sidebar appear a few weeks after they disappeared. Just not a fan of side bars, which is why I'm trying to set them back to the upper bar. I wouldn't think that a Google update may have caused the issue but in the back of my mind, I can't help wondering if that was the cause. Thanks for the imput.

The icons you are missing are part of the Formatting toolbar and the top toolbar is usually the Standard toolbar. Maybe your toolbars are not being displayed in the order you expect. If the New and Save buttons are among the possible Visible Buttons, you are working with Standard toolbar. The Formatting toolbar has buttons like Styles & Formatting and Font Name. Can you confirm that your Formatting toolbar, whatever its position, does not have the Fill Color and Font Color buttons among its possible Visible buttons?

You can make any toolbar visible with the menu View -> Toolbars.

You can also try to switch to LibreOffice. There are many weird bugs occurring in AOO that are not in LO: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information Try a portable version first, to make sure it's OK.
Sidebars are eventually comfortable, especially with wide screens. I was not a fan at first but in the end, not that bad.
