Insert Image in Impress Slide
Insert Image in Impress Slide
I am running OO 4.1.15 in Windows 10 64-bit. I have a presentation. Last night I decided to use Slide Sorter to move five slides to a different place in the presentation. When I finished, two of the slides had lost their JPEG content; the slide titles were intact. Now I am trying to re-insert the JPEG image into each of the two slides. In the past (and in online videos) the slide would have a four-part icon that I could click and then add a JPEG image. Now I see a blank area. When I copy (cntl-c) the image and then try to paste into the slide, I get the green outline boxes, but the graphic does not appear. How can I get the single graphic JPEG image into each of the slides where the image has disappeared? And a secondary question - when I used the Slide Sorter to re-arrange the order of the slides, why did the JPEG image disappear from two of the slides? One slide that contained a graphic was not altered.

Here is more information. I discovered that I can get the four-part "insert" icon by changing the slide layout to "title, content". When I click on "insert picture" and select the JPEG image, nothing gets inserted.

Re: Insert Image in Impress Slide
I am having a hard time, when I read my report from some years ago, determining what I did to fix the problem. It appears that, in that case, Impress was not displaying images. IN the present case, one of the re-ordered slides had a JPEG image, and it remained intact.
I tried to reset the profile. I went to %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 and renamed "user" to "user_old". Then I tried to open the Impress .odp file. Nothing happened. I saw a new "user" folder had been created. Then I renamed "user" to "user_new" and "user_old" to "user". I sill cannot get my ,odp document to load. What do I do now?

I had to reboot because I was getting alerts that malware had been found and removed. I also rebooted to try to get OO back. During the shutdown, Windows complained that one app (OO) was not responding. I cance3lled that and completed the reboot. I was then able to open OO, open my .odp file, remove the slides that had "strange" picture icons within, and then insert new slides and add the desired JPEG images. I have no idea why I had to reboot to get OO to behave "properly". But I have no idea why, when I re-sorted the slides, two slides with JPEG images got corrupted (and one with an image) did not get corrrupted).

As said in your older topic, try LibreOffice.
AOO is sadly almost dead. LO may have fixed this kind of issue.

Re: Insert Image in Impress Slide
You do not specify how you inserted the JPEG (linked or embedded in the ODP).
Too many images increase the size of the document, so you need to compress it through Tools menu.

Re: Insert Image in Impress Slide
In the Impress presentation I inserted the JPEG images by 1) changing the slide layout to Title,Content. Then I clicked on the "picture" part of the four-part icon to insert the JPEG image.

Re: Insert Image in Impress Slide
You can reinsert the JPEG by using Insert → Image → From File instead of copy-paste. The missing graphics may have been linked (not embedded), so moving slides broke the link. To avoid this, always embed images when adding them.
