Microsoft forced Win 11 onto my Win 10 pc.
All my Open Office douments seemed to open fine in all the apps.
Now, all of a sudden, I can't open spreadsheets made with Calc, even when I right click on "open with Calc"
All other types of files seem to still open fine. I can open the folders with the files in them and it shows the spreadsheet files,
but when I click to open, even "open with calc" they won't open.
The pc doesn't have any Microsoft Office apps on it.
I've got the new Open Office version 4.1.15. (Do they automatically update?)

Re: Calc won't open a spreadsheet in Win 11
The trouble with opening Calc files seemed to start just after I downloaded the Win 10 version of Microsoft Paint,
of course the Win 11 new version of paint might as well be written in farsi or something, totally confusing.

Re: Calc won't open a spreadsheet in Win 11
Just thought of something else - this happened RIGHT after I made up a new spreadsheet .
Looking back in the folder, it shows it to be an Excel spreadsheet rather than an Open Office spreadsheet.
Apparently, when I clicked "new" it somehow went to Excel altho I don't have that on this pc, just Calc.
Now I see that other spreadsheets I thought I had saved as Calc files are now Excel files.
I have always used Open Office Calc on this pc so don't even know why it is saving spreadsheets
as Excel files, even ones I thought I'd saved as Calc files.
Something to do with the download of the Win 10 Paint app?
Without being able to open these spreadsheets, and they won't open with "open with Calc", is it possible
to somehow get them switched to Calc type files? I sure don't want to pay for a MS Office Excel app!

Re: Calc won't open a spreadsheet in Win 11
Well, one more surprise.
I figured if those files had somehow been changed to Excel instead of Calc, and wouldn't open with Calc, I'd see if I could find a free Excel app
to use so I could at least open them and use them.
Surprisingly, I DID find a free MS Office suite which I downloaded.
Much to my surprise, when I opened the folder with those spreadsheets that had been listed as Excel files, even tho they had been saved
as Calc files, they now ARE listed as Calc files and open right up!!
Microsoft, again, caused me a lot of angst and frustration. And I still don't understand why that all happened like it did, and I DON'T CARE
as long as I don't have to screw around with that fubar'd Microsoft any more!!

The file association may have been changed, see: [Tutorial] Setting the default program to open files.
Note that LibreOffice offers better compatibility with new versions of the various operating systems available.

LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE Faye) and 24.8 portable on Windows 11.
Re: Calc won't open a spreadsheet in Win 11
If the file extension is still .ods, only the file association with the program to be used and the description in Windows Explorer have been changed.
Microsoft always tries to push its own programs, but this is new to me. Installing LibreOffice will also restore the file association.
