Suspicious Autorun DLL: shlxthdl_x64.dll

Post by Zerquetch »

shlxthdl_x64.dll

in dir
C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenOffice 4\program\shlxthdl

I noticed it because it's listed in my Autoruns as Apache Office Column Handler. I was just cleaning up my Win 11 Start-ups due to a clash in my audion, so I tried to de-select it and got: Access Denied - OK, nope.
I've looked online for it but get zero hits. No info seems to connect to it.

Is this a legit pc of code? If so, what's with the autorun and permissions (I'm the sole user of my home computer)

Any help in this matter would be awesome!

Thank you,
Zerq

It originates from Sun, adopted by Apache. It's not regarded as a threat, so you can keep it. The _x64 versions are probably for 64 bits operating system and 64 bits version of AOO (on Linux but not on Windows), so I suppose that the shlxthdl.dll is for 32 bits OpenOffice, and then you'd much better leave it alone or OpenOffice may not work properly.

Open the task manager and see if an soffice process is running.

FYI, I use OpenOffice 4.1.15 on Win11 Pro and I have not this registry key.

It would be a lot more suspicious if the dll sat in the Windows folder with executables. It's not verified by Microsoft, that doesn't mean that it wasn't verified by the developers of AOO.
