"Update All Links" screen has returned in 4.1.5

Post by Atmospheric »

I make extensive use of links among spreadsheets to perform dynamic calculations. It's just not practical to put everything in one ginormous file. I want all my links to update every time I open a file. I do not want my computer to repeatedly argue with me.

In 4.1.3 and previous versions, I was able make the "Update All Links" nag screen go away permanently by setting both of the following preferences (Mac):
[*]Security > Macro Security > Low (Not recommended)
[*]Calc > General > Updating > Update links when opening > Always

In 4.1.5, the "Update All Links" nag screen has returned despite these settings.

Anyone have any idea how I can make the nag screen go away this time?

I've added several folders to the Security > Trusted Sources > Trusted file locations and it doesn't seem to help. Should I self-sign a security certificate?

I have the same problem after updating from 4.1.3 to 4.1.5. That small dialog asking "Up date all links? YES NO" is aggravating.

I haven't found a workaround yet.

Downgraded to 4.1.4 and that aggravating dialog appears there too. Returned to 4.1.3 and the workaround still works there. I'm staying with 4.1.3 for now.

I'm evaluating LibraOffice since its based upon the same code. Found some and some bad issues, but I might switch because it seems to be less buggy.

I tried LibraOffice but unfortunately ALL of my links among spreadsheets completely broke.

I've been playing around with 4.1.5 settings. If I upgrade my Macro Security level, I get a different dialog entirely. Also, when I added folders to the Trusted list, I got fewer nag dialogs. With some files I get two separate nags. I'm totally shaking my head at this point.

Using Apache OpenOffice 4.1.5. Having the same problem as Atmospheric and don1225. I use spreadsheets that retrieve info from other spreadsheets. Each time I open one I get barraged with "Up date all links? YES NO". Even after answering 'Yes' to the questions (3-4 each time) I will get the message while working on the spread for a while. Anyone come up with a solution yet?

I finally uninstalled 4.1.5 and downgraded to 4.1.3. Fortunately, the install package is still available.

Thanks for the reply Atmospheric. Sorry to see you had to downgrade to retrieve functionality lost in newer versions. Anyone at AOO paying attention?

Thanks for the reply robleyd. The other posts you referred to in your link are additional reports of the same problem reported in this thread (except for one that appears to be self inflicted). Guess we'll have to see if this gets fixed in 4.1.6

Try LibreOffice. They are very likely to have fixed such issue (if it had it at all).

To have 'auto update links' go to Preferences> General>Open Office Calc>General>Updating and then check the button for update Links when opening on the top right hand side. This works for me on my Mac

Please read again. The point here is to PREVENT this dialog to appear at all.
