[Solved] Recovering "Corrupt" ODT File

Hi, I have an ODT File that I was working on last night but, when I've come to open it today, says it's Corrupted and the internal Recovery Software can't open it. I tried a website called "OfficeRecovery" and it's able to recover the document and give me a "Demo", however half the document is censored and they want $39 for the full file.

My logic is, if they can recover it then the document is presumably all there, so I was just wondering if anyone here could help me open it? I've attached the file incase someone can help.

It's not the end of the world if it can't, however it's not really worth $39 to get it recovered and it's more just a pain because it's a boring document to write - typical it would be this one that corrupts!

As you are probably aware, .odt files are a zip archive; in your case the zip file has somehow been truncated and data lost. I can recover no useful data in the file you have uploaded - perhaps others may have slightly more success?

If you have a goodly portion of the contents from another source, my suggestion would be to use that as a basis for rebuilding the document.

For future peace of mind, you might consider installing the Timestamped backup extension, which will allow you to make multiple, timestamped backups of your document.

It is also best to send the damaged file as it was _before_ any attempt to repair it.

An odt file is a zip file with the odt extension containing various xml files. If you rename it to .zip, there are a whole load of tools with free trials you could try to repair it with.

I've just tried one and it successfully extracted various parts of it - but unfortunately the most important file called content.xml was made into an empty folder not a file. You might have more success with others.

The file appears to have been truncated. There probably isn't any more content that can be recovered. I couldn't extract the content, but opening the file with a hex editor shows content.xml at the end of the archive. Using 7Zip to list the files in the archive also shows content.xml at the end of the archive and an error "Unexpected end of archive."
