It depends on your hardware. If your hard drive is a SSD, then few chances. Else, there are applications like Photorec/Recuva. There are several topics about that in the forum.
I guess that you first checked the trash bin.
What OS by the way? You should add it in your signature.

As Hagar says. Do not make the mistake of thinking that because such files are shown on OpenOffice's Recent Documents list that they are stored by OpenOffice. That list is merely pointers for quick access to where the files were when last edited. It is not updated when files are deleted or moved.
