[Solved] Want numbers in a table to remain as typed

Post by mtnylmz »

Hello. In writer, I create a table, but I am having trouble with number format. This is should not have been so difficult.

I create an ordinary table and try to write in 2.77 in a cell, but it turns into 01/02/77.

Again an ordinary number turns into a date. Would you please explain how to solve this problem properly and permanently? What configurations should I change for entering numbers as I type them from keyboard?

What is the locale setting in your office suite? (What is the decimal separator? Have you tried the comma (2,77)?

How was formatted the target cells? (text/number/date)?

Can you upload your ODF type sample file here?

Right click the table and disable the number recognition.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the 🖉 button if your issue has been fixed.

Or you can try changing the columns or cells format to "text."
Then you can write anything you'd like but you can't perform any formulas or calculations with a text cell.

It all depends on what your end purpose is for all the numbers.

It does not apply to a Writer table I think.

Type 2,77 instead, and it will be the decimal value you want.
Call Tools>Options>Language Settings>Languages and change the "Locale" setting to something English and existing comma decimals will change to point decimals, and you need to enter them with a point. This global setting affects the whole office suite.

You may also set the number format locale explicitly for the table cells which overrides the global locale.

This is related to the language settings within Writer. There is a way to change it. Call Tools>Options>Language Settings>Languages and change the "Locale" setting to something English and existing comma decimals and it will work. They have posted about it here and it will change to point decimals, and you need to enter them with a point. This global setting affects the whole office suite.

Hello, I am having the same problem, in the US decimal separator is a dot not comma, why does it think I am in Europe? and I don't see call tools > options. ok thank you.
