[Solved] Restore and file open problems

Post by JimBrett »

When I open OpenOffice, I get the file restore window containing two documents which I have used to restore the documents. Unfortunately, I still keep getting the window every time I open OpenOffice.

In addition, documents I have opened have stopped appearing on the recently opened documents list.

Also, OpenOffice has started running really slow. It takse a second or two for any action to be done whereas in the past it was immediate.

I don't know if these problems are linked, but they all started at the same time?

Any help would be appreciated.

One thing at a time!

When you get the Restore window, press Cancel and the window should go away forever.

Then possibly an OpenOffice User Profile reset, which may cure your other problems also. Enter these commands

Code: Select all

1. Stop AOO
2. Open a File Explorer window
3. Click in the Address bar
4. Type C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming in the address bar, where xxxxxx is your user name, and press Enter
5. right-click OpenOffice. Choose Rename. Rename it to something else OpenOffice.old is good
6. Start AOO.

You need to break that down a bit for me.

Where do I type 'Stop A00'.

That means have AOO closed, then carry on with steps 2 etc.

When Rory says "Stop AOO" he means to exit OpenOffice and also, if you use the OpenOffice Quick Launcher exit that at the System Tray.

For instruction '4' instead of typing all that Rory mentions then in the Address Bar just type (including the percent characters) %AppData% and press the Enter key and that will take you to the folder where you can see your OpenOffice Profile Folder which just has the title OpenOffice

Thanks, that makes sense.

I've done that and it's worked for all problems. I've lost my 'Recent Documents' list, but that's not a major problem. Now my newly opened documents do appear on the list.
Brilliant.

As you open each older document, which documents are still on the computer where they were Saved, they will once more appear on the recent Documents list, up to the capacity of that list (10 entries?)
