[Solved] OpenOffice 4.1.13 install blocked by Windows 10.0.19045

Post by Phil Martin »

Hi there,

Apparently Windows did an update and when I tried to load my installed Open Office 14.1.13 it wouldn't open.

I uninstalled and tried to reinstall but keep getting stuck about half way through the "copying new files" window with the message :
"Error 1310. Erreur lors de l'écriture dans le fichier C:\Program Files (x86) OpenOffice 4\program \nssckbi.dll - vérifier que vous ête autorisé à accéder à ce repertoire. Then three choices : Abanndon - Retry - Ignore

If I ignore it stops, if I retry it stops, the only option is to abandon. WTF Windows ??? I have tried stopping Windows Defender, it can't be stopped, I have deactivated user account protections, that didn't work, I have tried exucute as administrator - no good either.

What have Windows done - again ?! I can't work !!! This is urgent !!!

Phil

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Quick workaround: switch to LibreOffice. Same code base as AOO but much more actively developed. There are some recent discussions in the forum about that. There may be something that makes Windows more tolerant to LO than AOO. Not sure what exactly.

Note that there are many topics about the error 1310 in the forum.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the 🖉 button if your issue has been fixed.

There are have been multiple issues reported to this forum of people having problems installing OpenOffice to Windows 10 and 11 systems. Often times the issue is solved by people just switching over to LibreOffice. There are several good reasons to switch to LibreOffice anyway, some of which are given in this thread: [Tutorial] Considering a Switch from OpenOffice to LibreOffice? Some Useful Information

Above said it might be the case that you have an OpenOffice process active on the system (unbeknown to yourself). To check open Windows Task Manager and see if there any soffice.bin processes are running. If they are 'Kill' them in Task Manager and then try your install of OpenOffice again.

The need is to run OpenOffice as Administrator; search Forum on that word, and you should find a solution. I don't run Windows so cannot give detailed help.,

There may be something to investigate to check what is the problem with AOO exactly.
But if you need an urgent fix, LO may be the quickest.

Basically it is the same software. During the past 10 years it had been developed as OpenOffice should have been developed.
Please, edit this topic's initial post and add "[Solved]" to the subject line if your problem has been solved.

That was to be expected.
Sad for AOO indeed that mere OS updates break the application beyond a very basic level, making users search for help.
