[Solved] Where to put downloaded extensions?

Post by freg »

Hi

New around here and a search of the wiki and this site did not reveal an answer.

I have downloaded several extensions from the site "extension.openoffice.org" that should help with some tasks that are frequently used.

However, I am not sure where they need to be placed.

From OpenOffice's "Tools>Extemsion Manager" I can see that I currently have an English language spell checker, but have no idea what folder I should be running these new ones from.

Should I put them in a folder in the "/Library/Application Support/OpenOffice/4/user/extensions" somewhere?

Do I create a new one somewhere else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Edit: The original question about where to put downloaded extensions was answered, so the topic is marked [Solved].

After you install the extension, you no longer need the downloaded file. Choose the OpenOffice menu item Tools -> Extension Manager and use the Add button to point at the downloaded extension. That will install the extension. You will need to restart OpenOffice to have access to the extension. You can then delete the downloaded file or save it wherever you like.

As FJCC says, OpenOffice will install the extensions, usually internally. Where the installed extension is placed is decided by the extension designer and you don't need to worry about it.

You need to install the extension. The following is from OpenOffice help which is part of the program. You could have looked it up yourself.

To install a user extension
Do any of the following:
1. Double-click the *.oxt file in your system's file browser.
2. On a Web page, click a hyperlink to an *.oxt file (if your Web browser can be configured to start the Extension Manager for this file type).
3. Choose Tools - Extension Manager and click Add.
