[Solved] How do you decipher *.dat files
HELP the system our HOME OWNERS ASSOCIATION is using in sending me files which end in *.DAT. I can not ot read them using OpenOffice and are at a loss deciphering them. Can any one point me in the correct direction?

Is the HOA using Outlook to send messages in RTF format? It's my understanding the RTF format is used only by Outlook and .dat files are added to help Outlook on the recipient's end format the email message. The .dat files are not intended to be read by the recipient. If you're not using Outlook, you should be seeing the emails in plain text format. Read this:

Open .dat files with Notepad or any simple editor. AOO will open them as well - if you have problems rename them to .txt.
