[Solved] Anyone Else Having Problems Connecting to Forum?

Post by LastUnicorn »

For the last two days I've had problems connecting to the OpenOffice forum. Keep getting 'timed out' or 'server not found' notices. Looks like the network is really slow, takes ages even to just get the problem notices. Also on a couple of occasions I've had to log-in twice, like the first log-in gets 'lost' somehow.

Anyone else experiencing the same issues?

P.S. I'm using Firefox 99.0 browser.

It may be that the main server was in need of a reboot; it seems to be improved now, if not yet perfect (Sun 17 April 2022, 09:30 UTC+1).
Edit: I am seeing some form of connection problem in or out of London UK

Hi Rory,

If you're saying the server has been rebooted then I see no improvement for me — things still very sluggish.

I have tried this using my (native) ISP server in the UK and I have also tried it using a VPN server in Switzerland, either one produces the same results, very sluggish. (Normally either one would work just fine.)

I don't know if the server has been rebooted, merely that I am getting better (but still bad) connectivity this morning.

Try running a traceroute to the forum server. I see connectivity problems to the server in London, or out of it, but know no more than that. Over the holiday weekend the ISPs may be on reduced staffing levels, so fixes could be slow,

I tried tracert (traceroute) and overwhelmingly get "Request timed out".

As you say it might take a few days for fix to arrive. I was just wondering if others are having the same issue.

I can confirm that the server has been rebooted, and connection reported OK from California; there are still connection problems on European networks, both to the Forum and to other sites. Forum connection is intermittent.

As probably most of you, we also had serious problem with connection from Poland since Easter; today it seems to be smooth.

It would be interesting to know what was causing the problem as openoffice.org always worked and it was forum.openoffice.org which didn't. I did a few Windows tracert and discovered openoffice.org seemed to use a different server than forum.openoffice.org. When I tracert openoffice.org it went through in about 300mS but forum.openoffice.org timed out for a long time before eventually getting through or hanging. Strangely, ping always worked: 44mS for openoffice.org and 94mS for forum.openoffice.org..
