[Solved] Mirror text

Post by zestybetsy »

Hi ~ Any suggestions for flipping text? I'd like to invert it for something similar to iron on transfers ~ Thanks for your input!

Hi and welcome to the forums.

This works although it is a bit long winded:

1. Open a new Draw document.
2. Enter your text and format it as you wish.
3. Select the text box - so you see the eight green box handles.
4. Go to File > Export..., choose a suitable graphic format (.bmp for example), tick Selection at the bottom of the dialogue box, and save the text as a file.
5. Back in your main document go to Insert > Picture... > From File... and insert the saved file as a picture.
6. Flip the 'text picture' by using modify > Flip.

If this has answered your question please go to your first post and use the edit button and add [Solved] to the start of your title. You can also select the green 'tick' icon.

Draw is not so great at this, although it is possible.

View > Grid > Snap To Grid: OFF
Single-click on the text object to select it.
Modify > Convert > To Curve
Click on either the left-middle handle and drag it to the right, past the right side of the text box. Hold down the shift key to prevent the text from distorting.

After you do this, it's no longer a text object. You can't go back and edit the text later on.
Edit: PS: You can also do this with a "Fontwork" text, in which case it remains an editable text object. You also have some nice dramatic effects to work with.

Thank you!
I gave both suggestions a shot.
Image export will be great when there are other graphics if you pay attention to resolution/lossy compression. Convert to curve is a bit more direct if there is only text.

Thank you. (I'm super psyched you all could help me out.)
