[Solved] Page Numbers field is "Page Numbers", not page #s

Trying to add to a document, go into Insert/Fields/Page Numbers & select this
But I just get the words "Page Numbers" shaded where the cursor is set.
What am I doing wrong.
Using AOO 4.1.9

Try toggling View | Field Names - Ctrl+F9.

What do you mean by "toggle"? Gone into View/Field Name & enter number & this stays same for all pages!
I'm trying to put page number in Header or Footer, is this a constraint?

Extra Information :- Have now noted that a document which I added page numbers to (in Header) some years ago now states "Page Numbers" in a block that has grey background, & the actual numbers do not occur.

"Toggle" means turn on or off. If View | Field Names is turned on, it will be turned off, if it was off, it will be turned on. The same as with applying boldface or italics with direct formatting - just select some text, press Ctrl+B repeatedly and see for yourself how the text is made bold and plain again and again. That's what toggling is.

View | Field Name toggles, or changes, between displaying the content of the field (e.g. the actual page number) or the name of the field. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+F9 to change between display of the field name or field content.
