[Solved] Microsoft Office and OpenOffice

Post by jemscot »

Have just purchased Microsoft Home and Student 2019 (PC). Instructions are telling me to uninstall all other versions of office before installing this.
Does anyone know if all other versions of office includes Open Office or does it mean all other versions of Microsoft Office? I already asked Micrsoft and they said try it and see.

I think they only refer to MS Office. However, if you install a version of MS Office, it will reset File Allocations to become the default program for many document formats. You can selectively reset these to point to OpenOffice, as you desire.

Note that there are regular reports of Windows 10 silently resetting File Associations from those chosen by the User, resetting them to point to Microsoft products. It may be that you will regularly have to reset such file associations to point to your program(s) of choice for certain file types.
