Re: Apache OpenOffice 4.1.8 released
The release notes say that AOO 4.1.8 includes fixes for two important issues. Both have been reported in numerous posts on the forum.
Issue 127789 - Update error(s) including program and extension
Summary: Using Help → Check for updates fails with
Status=Checking for update failed
Description=Error reading data from the Internet Issue 125431 - "The Password is incorrect. The file cannot be opened."
Summary: The correct password fails to open a file which has been protected using "Save with password". If you install OpenOffice 4.1.8 and have difficulty with it, you can uninstall it and request 4.1.7 (or other versions) from the download page (third selection box after choosing operating system and language). Uninstalling/installing does not touch your documents.

Edit: For people using MacOS 10.n: MacOS 11.0 ("Big Sur") is being released today, 2020-11-12. It seems unlikely that any versions of OpenOffice have been tested with this release of MacOS, thus if you choose to install MacOS 11.0 you are heading into uncharted territory. It may take some time to resolve any problems you encounter. If the stability of OpenOffice is important to you, consider not upgrading to MacOS 11.0 until more is known about how OpenOffice runs on that platform. If you don't know what release of MacOS you are running, see → About This Mac. If you are having problems with OpenOffice after installing MacOS 11.n and want to downgrade to your previous release of MacOS, contact Apple. |
