Search ODT files with Windows 10 file explorer
Search ODT files with Windows 10 file explorer
I make lists using .odt files and I would like to make them searchable using file explorer/Windows 10. Is this possible??

Open Office 4.1.5 on Windows 10
Re: OpenDocument text
The easiest way may be to Save As and select text format; this will have no formatting.

The contents of .odt files are searchable by Windows.
Create a new .odt document with the word zebra in it. Save it as fred.odt. Search for zebra and Windows will find fred.odt.
If it does not go Windows > Settings (gear wheel) > Search > Searching Windows > Advanced search indexer settings > Advanced > File types ..., and make sure .odt is set to Index properties and file contents.
It it still does not work use Windows Help? Troubleshooter? to repair? rebuild? the Index and/or the Search function, and check the Search Service is running. See Windows 7 Search for ODT files not found (Ver 4.1.7)

If you read German: http://mechtilde.de/Loook/
Loook is a Python program to look up keywords in ODF documents and http://mechtilde.de/Loook/Downloads/loook-0.8.6.exe is the Windows installer.
If your files contain nothing but lists, plain text instead of ODF would be the simple solution.

Use the terms "ifilter" and "solved" in the forum search box to find some possible solutions. OpenOffice installs the IFilter that Windows Search uses to index OpenDocument Format files.
