[Solved] Installation failure 4.1.7 (error 1714)
[Solved] Installation failure 4.1.7 (error 1714)
Had OpenOffice (4.1.3 ??) installed on computer (G: drive, Windows 7 SP1) Hard drive failed and was replaced. Downloaded OpenOffice 4.1.7 and tried to install it (either on C: or G:) but in either case it refuses to install because it can't remove the previous version. Of course it can't, the drive is gone. Have tried removing every trace of OpenOffice in the registry but that didn't help. PLEASE HELP. Tx

Re: installation failure 4.1.7
Perhaps use a utility such as CCleaner or Revo Uninstaller to remove traces of the previous version.
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.15 on Xubuntu 22.04.4 LTS
Re: installation failure 4.1.7
Thanks for the suggestions. Great idea, but tried them and CCleaner didn't help and Revo Uninstaller does not see OpenOffice at all.

Did you instruct them to be at their most aggressive?

Re: installation failure 4.1.7
Yes I did, thanks. And a thorough search of the Windows 7 Registry by both regedit.exe and regedt32.exe no longer find ANY trace of openoffice in the Registry.

Re: installation failure 4.1.7
openoffice may show up as its components - soffice, swriter, scalc etc.

Re: installation failure 4.1.7
Try reinstalling 4.1.3 instead of 4.1.7, then upgrade to 4.1.7.

Great idea. Thanks. Will try that.

Re: installation failure 4.1.7
Tried but it wouldn't install. Error message "the same version of this product is already installed"

Re: installation failure 4.1.7
When you reinstall, you should get several options, including "Repair". Did you try the "Repair" option?
AOO 4.1.14 on Ubuntu MATE 22.04
Re: Installation failure 4.1.7
Thanks, but didn't get any option but install. No "repair" and no "uninstall". Then simply an error message that refused to install 4.1.3 because it was "product already installed". When I had tried to install 4.1.7 it would not install because it could not "uninstall previous version". Previous version is GONE with failed hard drive so can't / won't uninstall.

Re: Installation failure 4.1.7
Very weird case!
As a workaround, you can use a portable version of AOO.
Else, after what has been done already, I can't see how to fix that. Perhaps another cleaning utility that could be more aggressive than CCleaner or Revo uninstaller?

Re: Installation failure 4.1.7
Thanks for the feedback. Ya, I thought for sure that when it wouldn't originally install because it couldn't uninstall the previous version, because it wasn't there anymore, I would remove every trace of it in the registry. That was a much bigger job than I figured, but eventually a search of the Registry can not find OO anywhere. So when I try to install it again I don't know where the new install is finding that it had OO on the pc before.

Re: Installation failure 4.1.7
I wonder if there is still an uninstall registry key left behind? Does OpenOffice still appear in the list of programs in Control Panel? Try uninstalling it from there if it still appears.
Maybe this article might also be helpful.

Re: Installation failure 4.1.7
Thanks for the feedback. No, Open Office does not appear in the "Programs and Features" list of installed programs in Control Panel. And before I purged the Registry there were literally hundreds of entries for Open Office in the Registry. But I have removed them all. Now Regedit.exe and Regedt32.exe do not find ANY TRACE of OO in the Registry, which I had assumed was where the new install was finding out that (a version of) OO had been installed before. I don't know where else the new install can be finding that information. I also did a search of Window's "User" and it finds "openoffice413.msi" but when I try to uninstall it it says "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." There is also a file called "openoffice417.msi" but trying to uninstall it gives the same error message.

Re: Installation failure 4.1.7
Try a registry search for soffice, swriter, scalc, and similarly for the other OpenOffice components.

Re: Installation failure 4.1.7
Excellent thought. Will try that.

Re: Installation failure 4.1.7
Did try that and found some instances of "openoffice.exe", "openoffice.bin" and "scalc.exe". Tried the install again but it still errors out when it can't remove the "older version". BTW, the ERROR is "Error1714" if that means anything to anybody.

Re: Installation failure 4.1.7
Thanks for the great tip. Unfortunately "Windows Installer Clean Up Utility" requires you to choose the program you want to remove from a list of programs available to remove. Sadly, OpenOffice is not on that list.

Although that didn't solve the problem, I did inch closer to what the problems is ... "RPC_S_NO_PROTSEQS_REGISTERED -=- Error 1714 (0x6B2): No protocol sequences have been registered."

Re: Installation failure 4.1.7
There is something still in the Windows Registry that is telling Windows about 4.1.3. Whatever it is needs to be removed. Check the Registry for the upgrade codes mentioned in this old post:
Re: ver 2.4 installation problem: error 1417
I no longer have Windows, so I can't check to see if the upgrade codes are still valid.

Re: Installation failure 4.1.7
The initial suggestion wasn't relevant as OO was no longer there to uninstall. But the Registry KEY suggestion was gold. There is no visible connection between the key and open office ... *** Search the registry for keys named "BA9B53C73EC281C4EBC7B579AE80E93B" *** ... but removing that KEY has SOLVED THE PROBlem and OO 4.1.7 is NOW INSTALLED. BIG THANK YOU.

Re: [Solved] Installation failure 4.1.7 (error 1714)
I just used this procedure to solve the same error when trying to install LibreOffice 7.2.4.1 on my Windows 10 computer. I got the same Error 1714 error when trying to install it. I had to do it twice and delete the two keys if found - but, after that, LibreOffice installed like normal...

Re: [Solved] Installation failure 4.1.7 (error 1714)
There are some strange and serious problems on your computer. I never experienced such problems at installing the LibreOffice on Win 7 or on Win 10.same error when trying to install LibreOffice 7.2.4.1 on my Windows 10 computer. I got the same Error 1714 error when trying to install it.

Thanks to trcjt.ca who answered this question. It said, in part:
"The initial suggestion wasn't relevant as OO was no longer there to uninstall. But the Registry KEY suggestion was gold. There is no visible connection between the key and open office ... *** Search the registry for keys named "BA9B53C73EC281C4EBC7B579AE80E93B""
After trying a dozen things to rid myself of this installation error this was the only one that worked. I wonder wtf that was all about?
