All formats not supported when trying to insert sound

Post by JTMike »

I've no idea what's gone wrong since I've been able to do this in the past with impress. I figured that maybe it was the version I had but after updating, I've had the same issue. I've tried wav, mp3, mp4, and a few other formats but every time I try to insert audio it just tells me that the file is not supported.

I've looked through a few other threads with similar issues and the fixes in those didn't work for me. Am I just kind of out of luck here? Thanks for any help.

Try the LibreOffice. At least a portable version of it.

Unfortunately, that's still giving the same errors. wav and mp3 seem to be formats that are not supported according to LibreOffice as well. I appreciate the help though.

Then you have not any player software for this formats on your computer. The AOO and LO can not play the sounds/videos itself, they will try to call (launch) the assigned mediaplayer what are installed on your PC.

I don't think I understand. I can click on the file and play the audio outside of Impress, which is what I did to make sure it actually worked. Regardless, because I was on a time constraint I figured out a work-around by just recording the screen during the presentation and capturing the sound separately and putting them together. Unfortunately the actual problem itself hasn't been solved, but I'm not as concerned about it anymore. If there is a solution posted, hopefully someone will be able to utilize it if they end up with a similar problem though.

Search with tutorial video formats to find the tutorial.
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.

I've got exactly the same problem as JTMike.

I am trying to insert a video into an impress presentation (OO 4.1.7)

The videos play fine in WMP and VLC.

When I insert them into the presentation I get "This file is not supported" error.

I've tried several different formats: MP4 , mov, WMA and avi.

I downloaded the K-lite basic codec pack and installed it. no joy.

My method is to place a hyperlink on a slide to the video or audio file; this allows the system media-player to take over and play the video/audio. If one wants to be very particular, one can hyperlink to a command line of the video player, any necessary parameters such as "full screen" and "exit", then the video file in question; ditto for the audio player.

Audio file details:
