Re: LinuxMint - open smb fies
smb files are network files, accessed via Samba. Your problem is to do with a bad network configuration on your computer system - OpenOffice should have read/write access to the target folders.

Use LibreOffice which is installed with all Linux distributions.

But it will hardly solve the issue with accessing the files (which belongs to a dedicated Linux forum BTW, not this one).Villeroy wrote:Use LibreOffice which is installed with all Linux distributions.

I agree with Hagar: this is a network configuration problem, best dealt with on an operating system specific forum.Hagar Delest wrote:But it will hardly solve the issue with accessing the files (which belongs to a dedicated Linux forum BTW, not this one).Villeroy wrote:Use LibreOffice which is installed with all Linux distributions.
How are the remote shares mapped on the computers in question? Are they mounted by fstab at boot time? If so, please post the rc.local file involved.

Re: LinuxMint - open smb fies
With LibreOffice on Linux I can easily access files on a Windows share. The OpenOffice file picker shows the directories and the files but when I select one to open, it tells me something about input/output error. The Gnome file picker fails silently without error message.

Re: LinuxMint - open smb fies
I access network shares from an Xubuntru 18.04.4 computer and a Buffalo Linksys WXL mounted from rc.local at boot time; the trick was to modify the rc.local line
by insertion of the version number for the version of Samba the remote box understood (the vers=1.0 entry); this became necessary about two years ago with some upgrade of xubuntu 18.04.
Code: Select all
mount -t cifs //192.168.2.NN/FileSharing -o username=xxxxxx,password=YYYYYY,uid=1000,gid=1000,vers=1.0 /home/xxxxxx/Desktop/Buffalo/Transfer

Yes, that may be a work-around. Nevertheless, I don't unserstand why one uses AOO on Linux desktops where a working copy of LibreOffice is preinstalled.
Edit: Indeed, using a mount point works. |

I use it because for my purposes it is stable; I am always aware of the old rule: "Don't change horses in mid-stream" ("as you'll fall in the water and may get drowned!" I also dislike the rampant featuritis of LibreOffice and some of their arbitrary rearrangements of menus.Villeroy wrote:Yes, that may be a work-around. OpenOffice mid-stream is shallow water. I can't do without LO pivot charts anymore.
