Post by Har21t »

Anyone has an idea about the customize content to content.xml is allowed or not. I am unable to find much information about this. Any help will be appreciated.

... customize content to content.xml is allowed or not
It's allowed, of course, but manipulations may damage the file and foil correct loading.

Please find the specifications here: https://www.oasis-open.org/committees/t ... rev=office.

(My only experiences concerned repairs to files corrupted by tracking changes during a time of spooking through the MS universe, some additional repairs, and removing of content protection. Not much, but things that cannot be done in a different way. In the few mentioned cases I used Notepad++ and its XML-tools plugin.)
On Windows 10: LibreOffice 24.2 (new numbering) and older versions, PortableOpenOffice 4.1.7 and older, StarOffice 5.2

Do not touch content.xml.

If you want to create customised content use a template - that is what a template is designed to do. See the Writer Guide for information about templates.

As a new poster you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date AOO Writer for Students and the Writer User Guide. May I suggest you bookmark the pages.

Press F1 to access the Help screen and search for your problem

The chapter headings in the manual are:

1 - Introducing Writer
2 - Setting up Writer
3 - Working with Text
4 - Formatting Pages
5 - Printing, Exporting, Faxing and E-Mailing
6 - Introduction to Styles
7 - Working with Styles
8 - Working with Graphics
9 - Working with Tables
10 - Working with Templates
11 - Using Mail Merge
12 - Tables of Contents, Indexes and Bibliographies
13 - Working with Master Documents
14 - Working with Fields
15 - Using Forms in Writer
16 - Customizing Writer – Keyboard shortcuts.

When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

Showing that a problem has been solved helps others searching so, if your problem is now solved, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.

File → Properties → Custom Properties

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

If you were to embed XML code in content.xml, content.xml should be run through an XML validator beforeclosing the OO archive; such manual embedding should be tried only on a copy on your file.

A quick check shows that data inserted by File > Properties > Custom Properties is stored in styles.xml in the ZIP wrapper.
