[Solved] Multi-column/table layout

Post by Lois-sez »

I have created in Writer a 4 column chart as a To Do list. Because the columns change frequently, the heading locations & their content shift as I add or remove content. I've tried to understand charts, but don't, especially the talk about x or y axis. I prefer the 4 column layout on Writer to the spreadsheet of Calc for this as it easily fits 1/2 my screen to share with my browser.
How do I set the information to stay in its column without its going up or down? I'm manually moving it back into place currently.

I made a screenshot, but don't see how to attach or paste it here.
Will a screenshot do what you ask?

Not. I meant a documentum file without the sensitive data. Note: the file size limit of the attachments is 128 KiB in this forum.

Use the Post Reply button (but not the Quick Reply!) under the post edit window you can find the "upload attacment" TAB. Browse a file and upload it here.

Hi Lois,
What you have done is set the page format to have four columns, usually called flowing or newspaper columns where the text flows from one column to the next as in a newspaper.

What I think you want is a four-column table ( Go to the standard menu bar and click on the table option > etc.

I'd do this with a new file to start with. See the attached example.

FABULOUS! It never dawned on me that a Table was what I needed. Thank you so much! As it turns out, I only need 2 lines, 1 for the Heading (which was automatically in BOLD & the contents are never going to fill the 2d line, but they're also never going to mess up my 4 columns.
I do appreciate your help as I never would have found it just using the OpenOffice Help & was afraid I'd need to switch to Calc which is not the format I wanted for this.
Thanks again!!!

I am glad that helped. I was fairly sure it was a terminology problem as much as anything.

You might find some of the manuals at https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Docume ... s/Chapters to be useful. Although the manuals are for V3.2, they work for the current versions as well.

Good luck with AOO.
