Locked document in Writer

I cannot open a saved document, I get a locked document error. I can open and save as a new document . and the cycle repeats. I can only save the file to a new filename. which means I get a whole list of files of the same document with different names. running on windows 10 Asus g74s. If I try to go to the help asking how to unlock a file I get a Java runtime error.

Windows defender is not deployed. I use AVG internet security.

I think AVG has some form of ransomware protection, but as I don't use Windows I cannot help further.

1. Reboot - does it fix it. If not
2. Download this file to the desktop.
3. Start AOO. Go File > Open ..., and open it.

Does it open? Do your other files open with File > Open ... ?

Stop AOO.

If you were editing fred.odt search for the hidden lock file .~lock.fred.odt# in the same folder and delete all you find.

Delete the hidden file C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\.lock if still there.

Please post the error message. There are several different "locked document errors" that have different solutions.

Install the latest 32-bit java runtime for Windows from java.com.
