[Solved] Read Only Doc

Hi there. I'm looking for some help with my Open Office, version 4.
I'm saving my docs as Microsoft Office 6.0 doc. When I send the document to the recipient via email, they are getting
a protected view of it - it opens as a read only.

I have not checked the read only box in open office. I can't figure out why this keeps happening. Does anyone have any
advice for me?

For a start, if you must use .doc format, Word 97/2000/XP is the best format to use.

The recipient should Save the file to the local hard disk; opening it direct from the email program is not appropriate.

Hi. Thanks so much. Why do you say - if I must use .doc format. What format would you suggest?
Also, do you have any idea why the document is showing up to the recipient as "read only" when I have not protected the document in any way.

You must use a format the recipient can read; unless he is using OpenOffice or LibreOffice, he will not be able to use .odt format, so .doc is the best compromise.

The Read only may be because the recipient is trying to open the document when it is in the email system, which does not allow full access to any documents, rather than when Saved to the local hard disk.
