File Save Extensions - Save As Microsoft Word etc

Post by KOOuser »

Hello, when I save a new doc or "save as" a new version of a doc, it gives a list of file extensions.
The options include Microsoft Word but the versions are really old, e.g. Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP , Microsoft Word 6.0, ODF text doc, etc.
My friends tell me when they open my docs, it flows differently , page numbers are different , etc...they think i am using an old version of Word.

What should i be saving the document as, so that it opens correctly in current versions of other people's word processing software? I know software is different and the only real solution is PDF but still, there should be extensions in the SAVE AS option that offer later versions of Microsoft Word.

I am using version 4.1.7 on a Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6.

Thanks

If they do not need to edit, send as PDF (/File /Export as PDF); otherwise there will be differences, caused inter alia by differing fonts on each computer. You could sent on OO's native format .odt, which MS Office since 2007 can open, although most MS Office users do not know that. If it is not accurate on the remote machine, that is caused by MS's limited support for the Open Document standard, and complaints should be addressed to them.

LibreOffice offers the .???x Microsoft formats for saving, which are the formats that you are (I think) referring to as "later versions". Eg.: .docx rather than .doc

But be aware, there seem to be differences when saving in that format, other than the differences introduced by different fonts being installed.
