Zotero plugin for OpenOffice?

Hello,
I'm wondering if there's a Zotero plugin for OpenOffice.

Zotero is a citation/ referencing application, and supposedly there used to be, and still might be, a plugin for OpenOffice.

After several searches I have ended up a the (Zotero "Word Processor Plugins" page)[https://www.zotero.org/support/word_pro ... ntegration]. Though, the only link on this page that has anything to do with OpenOffice, is to a YouTube video that isn't available.

I tried searching Apache OpenOffice Extensions for Zotero and came up with 0 results, but you might want to look yourself in case there's something that is similar enough for your situation.

I have found that the extension seems to exist as a combination of the one for Libre Office, now the situation is that I keep getting this error, even after restarting my machine and un-checking "Use a Java runtime environment" like this Zotero forum posts says to do: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/16 ... ion-loader

@Zizi64. This is what it says inside that main Zotero application add-ons page, which I why assume that the Zotero download comes with connections for LibreOffice & OpenOffice, and to be the same thing as what the link you provided (the specific part of the image that I'm referencing is, everything below and to the left of the pink "2". Also behind the popup in the image, the buttons "Options" & Disable/ Enable", like in the "Zotero Word for Windows" section shown below in the image, are what I see:

My definition of "Toolbar" because I use a bit in the next sections, but I'm not sure of it's actual meaning: the area at the top that has buttons "File", "Home", "Insert"....

Also, when I add I Zotero to either LibreOffice or OpenOffice, I get the same error message "Use a Java runtime environment". For a moment, when I thought I got figured out, I think after restarting my machine and closing the OpenOffice, OpenOffice did show a popup style window similar to that of the "Navigator" (Separate from the Toolbar), but the buttons in this window didn't seem to do anything. I see "New Menu 1" on the Toolbard in OpenOffice, but it's greyed out and only gets highlighted blue when I click it.
After getting the error pop-up message in LibreOffice, I now see those similar or the same set of buttons, are now available as part of the Toolbar, but they too don't work like when they showed up in OpenOffice.

When I open MS Word, it is easily noticed that the add-on is connected because I can see "Zotero" on the Toolbar . Though I would prefer to see if OpenOffice can work with Zotero too.

You must install some Java component (I assume: JRE). You must install 32 bit JRE for the 32 bit AOO or LO, and you must install 64 bit JRE for the 64 bit LO.

This is a third party software, like the DotNet or the Visual Basic runtime environment.

The LibreOffice team works on the make the LibreOffice JAVA-independent. But some features (and some third party extensions) use the Java today.

I have re-selected the "Use a Java runtime environment" option in OpenOffice and the "Could not create Java implementation loader" message has gone away, but I don't see any Zotero buttons. I will restart my machine.

I think part of the problem may be that, when I would select Zotero to be added in OpenOffice I would accidentally click cancel, but I'm not sure of this.

Edit:
I have restarted my machine. The extension/ add-on is in the extension manager of OpenOffice (just like before I restarted), but I son't see any buttons to utilize Zotero.

Oh, I think I may have made progress in LibreOffice because the add-on/ extension actually shows up in the extension manager, after restarting the program and machine, but it still gives the same error, and I'm sure I'm no clicking cancel.

The Zotero extension for LibreOffice works OK on my OpenOffice 4.1.7 running on Xubuntu 18.04.3

I also have Java running on that machine.

For OO 4.1.7 on Windows 10, OO being a 32 bit application you need a 32 bit Java installed, which can be installed alongside a 64 bit Java.

If WIndows64 + Java32 + OpenOffice32 is too complicated, simply install LibreOffice64 which uses the default Java64 that is installed on your WIndows64.

I forgot that the only improvement of the latest AOO verions 4.1.7 is " Adds support for AdoptOpenJDK as well as Oracle Java".
https://adoptopenjdk.net/releases.html is a free alternative to the Oracle product. It is distributed with all flavours of Linux. Possibly it helps in this situation where Windows/AOO users are overstrainded with Java issues. The Oracle web site with its license foo does not help for sure.

What would be the reasons to use Java32 & OpenOffice32 on a 64-bit machine?
What are the differences between the 32 and 64, like why would it make a difference?

What's up with OpenOffice being discontinued, and how does that work with 4.1.7 being released recently, and will it still be developed?

Because the AOO has not 64 bit version for Windows. The AOO for Windows is a 32 bit software, therefore you need a 32 bit Java for it.

I think I have made the change stick; LibreOffice and OpenOffice seem to both retain the add-on/ extension of Zotero in their extension manager. Though in OpenOffice, I don't see any way to use it like buttons any where on the Toolbar, and LibreOffice I still get the error, but I now see what looks like an un-stylized window (no icons, just a horizontal window, the other was more square, for the buttons that's separate from the Toolbar).

Yes, OO is still being developed, and I think a 64 bit Windows version is being worked on, but developer manpower is limited, so don't hold your breath.

From Zizi64's java link, download the x86 version and install it.

I use OO rather than LibreOffice as it is stable on my machines with my files; it offers the facilities I need in the interface I am accustomed to.

Edit: By way of explanation: my use of OpenOffice is chiefly for writing long documents; I use Impress several times a year for visual presentations. All works for me, so I won't "change horses mid-stream"

I stopped using OpenOffice because it crashes with my most important files (even those that where made with OpenOffice) and because there are some new features in LO that fit my needs.

Well, it's good to know that I have the 2 options because, OpenOffice & LibreOffice are very nice.

I'll post on whether the Java download solves the problem.

If you are a real masochist you can even use Zotero with Latex.

If you are heavily into academic writing, especially in the sciences Latex or something like Lyx, essentially a Latex front-end , can do things that AOO or Word cannot.
