I have a PPT file created in OO and am having trouble formatting some preexisting styles.
Under Format > Character > Position there is an option for scaling the width of the text. I cannot find it when I attempt to edit a style, and when I use the Format > Character > Position > Scaling option, it is not applied in the style.
Can anyone advise me how to accomplish scaling in a preexisting style?
Thanks in advance

Re: Formatting and Styles
I've just tried - if I select text then /Format /Character /Position : Scaling will take. I have not tried modifying a style.
Edit: Later: I cannot find such an adjustment in a Paragraph style. |

Re: Formatting and Styles
The Impress application has not character styles. It has object (drawing) styles only. You can create your own drawing styles or you can use the predefined ones. You can apply the existing styles from the sidebar, or from the relevant menu item.
The drawing styles have "Text", "Text animation", "Font", and "Font effects" property groups (TABs).

Re: Formatting and Styles
What's the difference between character and drawing styles?
As an FYI, the font I am using is hard to read in normal spacing, but it is specified as the one I must use. I have found it easier to read if I add space between the letters.
On another thought, how can I remove the style from a header text area? (I'm not sure what the boxes that say "Enter Text Here" are called, other than possibly text boxes.

Re: Formatting and Styles
My workaround was going to be to remove the inbuilt title boxes and insert a new text box with the appropriate text and formatting. Tried it, and spacing does not hold there either.
Any way to get spacing between letters in Impress? If so, what and how?

Re: Formatting and Styles
A workaround may be to use a font editor and adjust the spacings of the font, then replace the old unmodified font with the new version.

Re: Formatting and Styles
Use a more readable Font in the Drawing style/Font property. The DejaVu font family has narrow and more charatcter sets.As an FYI, the font I am using is hard to read in normal spacing, but it is specified as the one I must use. I have found it easier to read if I add space between the letters.

Re: Formatting and Styles
All of the textual shapes are drawing objects with a string label in the Draw and the Impress applications. What's the difference between character and drawing styles?
Therefore you must adjust (modify) the existing and applied Drawing styles in the Draw and Impress.
The Character style group is a base style of the Writer.
