Opened document all in numbers/symbols instead of English.

Post by gamare2 »

All saved documents are unreadable. Just a mix of numbers/symbols/letters. Even newest doc just written yesterday - can't open in readable form. Says Western European Apple Mac, but not readable.

Please upload a small file showing the problem so that it can be analysed. Use the Upload attachment tab below where you type (128 kB max); or use a file share site, Dropbox or Google Drive for a larger file.

I haven't time to look this up, but I have a memory that one MAC O.S upgrade did that to OpenOffice files; I cannot remember the cure, but I am certain there was one.

1. Start AOO
2. File > Open ..., and navigate to a file.
3. Open the file.

Does it open OK?

That is actually a mislabelled PDF file; OpenOffice is not designed to open PDF files, which should be opened with a dedicated PDF reader. I'm not certain the entire content is present.

I'll second Rory's comment. A mislabeled PDF file.

The question becomes "How did the file New Army .pdf get renamed to New Army .odt?".

When you are Saving a file in OpenOffice, using /File /Save As, make sure "automatic file name extension" is checked.
