Glitch: "Retaining comma sign in a dollar value" in a Table

Post by wdc »

I have run into this frustrating (but not serious) problem using OO Tables. I'd appreciate someone spotting my error.

When I insert a a value like "$ 15,000" (with the comma) in a table, the comma diasappears after about 10 seconds.

As ever, thanks much. ....wdc

You may need to modify the number format that is applied to the cell(s) when you enter currency - right click in the cell and select Number format...

I haven't been able to duplicate the problem with AOO 4.1.6 on Manjaro. With English (USA) as the locale and USD $ English (USA) as the default currency, the Currency Number Format includes thousands separators (commas) by default. If the currency amount is typed in without the commas, they are added automatically. They are never removed automatically.

Thanks all.
I'm afraid I have not corrected things quite yet.

To review, I want numbers (like 1,234 to appear in an OO Table).
I have:
Right clicked the number itself. This brought up the Number Format screen.
I highlighted\: Number and -1,234
I selected Language as Default English/USA

Under Options, I checked only "thousands separator"
Finally, I checked OK

BUT, that did not work. Still I get numbers in tables entries that keep "losing" the thousand-separators.

Can someone see what I am continue to do wrong?

Thanks for your patience. .... wdc

Please upload/attach a sample of your document, as that way we will be working with any settings that you have made that are document dependent.

Quick after thought, have you checked that the formatting for the cells that are not retaining the comma match the formatting of the cells that do?
I haven't needed to use a table in this manner in Writer, but it sounds to me like you might have to set/adjust the formatting for each cell in the table...or highlight the entire table and set the formatting that way.
