[Solved] The operation couldn’t be completed (error 99999)

Post by Jake46 »

I had OO 4.1.2 and it was working fine. Downloaded 4.1.6, copied the app to the Applications folder, right-clicked to Open, verified, then got the pop-up error, "The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 99999.)"

I removed the app using AppCleaner, installed a fresh copy, same problem.

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers,
Allan

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Verification of the disk image is performed before the application is copied to the Applications folder. Review [Tutorial] Mac FAQ Q03/A03. Download only from the listed website. Follow the instructions carefully.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

I beg to differ, Mr. Programmer. Yes, the disk image is verified, but then on first open so is the app. I did download from the official site and followed all the instructions. After you open for the first time, the app is not verified again.

Here is a screen video of the action:

I've added Q49/A49 to [Tutorial] Mac FAQ.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Ciao, you can try this procedure if you haven't already done so:
  • Uninstall OO
  • Delete the OO User Profile
  • Download a new copy of OO and install it.
To delete User Profile:
  • Hold down the Alt key and select Go in the Finder and choose Library
  • Found the folder user in Library > Application Support > OpenOffice > 4 > user and delete it
  • Al the first start of OO you will have a new user folder

Hi Charlie, thanks for the additional info, but there is no OpenOffice folder in the Library>Application Support. I see you are on Sierra, I am on Mojave - probably different. Also, there is no Alt key on the Mac :-) only Option and Command.

Ciao Jake46,
Jake46 wrote:there is no Alt key on the Mac
it is the same than Option command.
Perhaps this system for displaying hidden folders does not work on Mojave. Any other system to see hidden folders is fine. But the user folder (hidden) should be where I told you also in Mojave.

Problem went away, not sure how - I deleted the OpenOffice app and moved a fresh copy over to the Applications folder and it's working now.

Thanks for the help, folks.
