I have a variety of computers, most old WinXP's but also a Win7 and a Win10.
I have both Windows Power Point and Open Office Impress, of various versions from OO 4.1.2 upwards. The problem I describe below happens on all versions I have of PP and OO.
The only reason I keep Power Point is that Impress does not always translate the colors from PP to Impress accurately.
It is most noticeable on PP slides with YELLOW titles: when they are converted to Impress slides, the yellow titles are changed to WHITE. I don't know if the same effect occurs when translating from Impress to PP, because I mostly compose in PP, and more people have PP than OO.
Why does this happen? Is there a template fix for this? If I could be assured of accurate color translation between PP and Impress and vice versa, I would really like to leave PP behind.
Thanks for your help.

Re: converting power point files without colar changes
Try the LibreOffice. It has a littlebit higher compatibility with the never standardized, old, obsolete MS file formats than the AOO has.
Or please upload your .ppt and .odp type sample files here.

Re: converting power point files without colar changes
Thanks, I was not aware of LibreOfffice.
I was able to download LibreOffice onto my Win10 machine, and can see no difference in the colors between PowerPoint and LibreOffice, so that's great!
However, I was not able to download LibreOffice on my XP machine. All the web sites for old downloads direct one back to the LibreOffice site, and although the LibreOffice site has older versions archived, such as v.4.3 which is supposed to work with XP (along with v.4.2 and 4.1), there was no apparent mechanism to download them there.
So how can I get a version of LibreOffice on an XP?
Thanks again.

The Win XP is not supported by the recent version of the LO. You can download the last XP compatible version:I was not able to download LibreOffice on my XP machine.
LO 4.4.7 or LO 5.4.x from the archive pages.

Actually, I'm not really 72. I just celebrated my 7th annual 65th birthday. ;^ )
Thanks again folks for your suggestions. It's nice to see with all the bad things that happen on the internet, that there are such nice folks willing to lend a hand.
