Document Recovery Endless loop
Open Office crashed when I tried to convert odt to PDF. It went into recover mode and
now OO is stuck in Recovery Screen. Only I cannot activate process as the screen is way too long for my Laptop screen. The Cancel and Recover buttons are cut off below and I cannot access them. Open Office has been locked in this loop for 2 months. HELP

Easiest and quickest way may be to delete your OO User profile
First, shutdown OpenOffice. Open any folder and enter
%appdata%\openoffice\4
in the address bar near the top. That will take you to a folder containing a folder named "user". Rename that to "user_old" (no quotes) . Restart OpenOffice. You should get the registration screen.

Re: Document Recovery Endless loop
thanks for the tip. alas, OO is locked onto the Doc Recovery screen. I cannot open other files or get the program to open another screen.

Boot your computer to system level (turn it off, count 20, then on again). Then follow my instructions above, omitting the part about shutting down OpenOffice.

Or use Ctrl +Alt + Del and open the Task Manager from whence you can terminate OpenOffice.

Re: Document Recovery Endless loop
some great ideas here guys [and girls]. First I tried uninstalling OO, but it just hung up and sat in a loop for over an hour. Then I tried the ctl alt del trick and it managed to shut down. I did a log off and reboot. 5 min later OO started up again and went to its Document Recovery loop hangup again.

Uninstalling won't help. Have you eventually reset the profile as advised in the first reply?

Hagar-- again I went to Task Manager. Deleted Open Office. Then immediately tried to open a different file in Open Office, but OO was too quick and went back to Doc Recovery mode loop. I cannot seem to get a different screen up, the everyday working OO screen, to do as you direct to rename Name User.

Re: Document Recovery Endless loop
Shut down OpenOffice, do NOT try and open a document, but reset the user profile as RoryOF suggests in the first reply above while OpenOffice is not running.

Re: Document Recovery Endless loop
David, I have tried often to shut down OO. I have clicked the X box in the Document Recovery screen but it does not respond. I have no other way to turn off OO. It remains open always on my desktop.

If you open the task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), then you should be able to kill the soffice.bin processes that can be still running. Then delete your user profile.

tried that. shut OO. an hour later when I figured out the new way of navigatiing
I placed %appdata%\openoffice\4 in the file folder line. No go.
I even tried it at C:\\%appdata%\openoffice\4 but computer complained.

If you are using OpenOffice 3.1, as your Forum signature says, replace the 4 with 3.

typed C:\Users\'name'\Desktop\GN%appdata%\openoffice\3 and computer complained path could not be found.

Re: Document Recovery Endless loop
All you need enter into file manager is %appdata%\openoffice\4 (or 3); no more. From your last post, you are completing a file path which is in error and unnecessary.

Re: Document Recovery Endless loop
%appdata% means "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming", so the path as typed is actually C:\Users\<username>\Desktop\GNC:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\openoffice\3" which does not exist. You never explicitely insert the drive letter in a path where you're using %appdata% since the drive letter is included in %appdata%. The path should be typed just %appdata%\openoffice\3 without anything in front of %appdata%.tandemcompound wrote:typed C:\Users\'name'\Desktop\GN%appdata%\openoffice\3 and computer complained path could not be found.
