What is it about the first slide? When I deleted it, the text of all my notes switched to adjoining slides.
What is happening there and what else should I avoid doing?
What can I do and what should I not-do, compared to the other slides?

Where it is happened? In the AOO or in LO?
Can you upload/share sample files to demonstrate before/after states?

In what format were you saving - .odt or .ppt?
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.9 on Xubuntu 20.04.1 (mostly 64 bit version) and very infrequently on Win2K/XP

I have just checked on a presentation saved in .odt format: I deleted first slide, saved and reopened - all notes were correctly attached to their appropriate slides.
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.9 on Xubuntu 20.04.1 (mostly 64 bit version) and very infrequently on Win2K/XP
