[Solved] Unable to save files after upgrading to 4.1.6
[Solved] Unable to save files after upgrading to 4.1.6
Receive message "File locked by unknown user" and can only open in read-only or create a copy with any file I open. Then I get the same message trying to save a document. Uninstalled 4.1.6 and reinstalled 4.1.5 and problem was solved.

Was it a clear installation, or a partial updating only? (Did you delete the files from the User profile, and the rest parts of the Program directory, after uninstall the older version?)
(Or you can try to delete /reset/ the user Profile of the AOO after you installed the newer version)

Re: Unable to save files after upgrading to 4.1.6
And was OpenOffice open at the time you upgraded?

Re: Unable to save files after upgrading to 4.1.6
OpenOffice was closed when I upgraded. It was a clean Installation, "typical user" which is what I always choose when I update OpenOffice. I didn't delete anything before the upgrade; I let the upgrade take care of it as it always has in the past.

Enable "viewing of hidden files" and look in the root of the User Profile. There may be a lock file there. Delete it; also look in the directory(s) in which you Save the files. Delete any files of the form
with any o?? extensions.
Code: Select all
.~lock.Filename.odt#

Re: Unable to save files after upgrading to 4.1.6
This may be a manifestation of the Windows Defender problem. Windows Defender may need to be told to let OpenOffice 4.1.6 (explicitly) write to the disk. The permissions for OO 4.1.5 may not automatically extend to OO 4.1.6.

Re: Unable to save files after upgrading to 4.1.6
Already checked for locked files. None. Already checked firewall. Made sure soffice was alllowed. I'll try a clean install again and see what happens.

Re: Unable to save files after upgrading to 4.1.6
I did a clean install and the problem disappeared. Something must have happened the first time around that I didn't catch. Thank you all for your advice!
