[Solved] Stuck loading excel sheets

Post by streaming »

Hello :)

Just tried to load some excel sheets and it doesn´t work. Normally this is not a problem . That are [xlsx] excel sheets generated by a federal statistic bureau in germany. OO try to open it and get stuck somewhere in the middle of process, using 25% CPU (maybe 1 core). Tried it with 2 separate sheets, downloaded them first [as I most often do; the bigger one was 50MB, the smaller I tested is about 10MB]. Because it failed this time I updated OO to 4.1.6, but nothing changed.

I wonder if there is a new excel version out and incompatible? Or any other known problem?

Apreciate any help :)

Can you upload a sample or provide a link to the Gov't site so that someone can have a look here.

BTW do you know if your Excel files open in Excel? There is the possibility of a corrupt download.

Try disabling macros - it may be a incompatible macro is looping.

Try converting the .xlsx to a .odt at zamzar.com or similar site.

See [Tutorial] Differences between Writer and MS Word files for a discussion of differences between MS and AOO files - it could be a new feature in the .xlsx file though I would expect AOO just to ignore any such new feature (without telling you :-().

I don´t have Excel, so I can´t test ist. The site from where I obtained the sheets is this:

https://statistik.arbeitsagentur.de/nn_ ... rch=Suchen

[the excel symbol right hand side]

I´ll try the recommended converting site! Thanks so far for your replys. :)

Zamzar does convert it into .xls but the converted sheet does have errors [fields wich should contain numbers contain "err:504" and "makro??" instead ]. Seems to be a more complicated type of excel sheet. :-/

Bear in mind that Excel macros will not run on OpenOffice, as there are different underlying engines.

It was not a problem before. It asked normally [as I open a file] if the content should be updated. So I pressed "no" and it ran fine .

LibreOffice can open and edit the file almost effortlessly. There is a strange warning about too many columns but no sheet (including the 8 hidden ones) goes beyond column U.
