Today, I have installed OpenOffice 3.4 on my Windows 7 32bit machine.
Everything seems to work proper, but after I clicked on the PDF export button and OO generated the PDF,
I noticed all Japanese character were simple blocks or not displayed correct. I hadn't this issue in version 3.3 and it would be nice to get this issue fixed.
Maybe someone has a hint?

Have you tried to play with the PDF export options to embed the fonts?

I recently checked Tools >> Options for any configuration for the export function, but couldn't find it.
In version 3.3 I never needed to do changes. It worked just from scratch

Try to check the PDF/A-1a option so that all the fonts are embedded.

The screenshot Hagar has uploaded comes from the dialog that follows selecting Export as PDF. There you are offered four tabs, of which his screenshot is the first. The others will probably not need alteration.

Re: OpenOffice 3.4 PDF export Japanese character broken
Hello,
I don't know where to put this, I am giving a try here.
I have a problem when exporting A PDF file from Open office. It is a half western, half japanese text.
I've checked previous topics on the forum and other places, seems most of the cases are explained by a lack of fonts in the system.
However, I don't think this is my case. I can write in japanese in the text document and I can export a 100% japanese text as a PDF file without problem.
The issue seems to appear when I want to export a mix of western and japanese fonts text, or is it something else?
I've followed instructions to check and uncheck different options for the export without any result. I always get strange symbols for the japanese parts.
What could be the problem?
I am running on OSX Yosemite 10.10.5 and Open Office 4.1.6
