[Solved] Impress 4.1.6 Invalid Format - Video

Post by jolo100 »

I have a .mp4 video that I want to embed into an Impress presentation.
The video runs fine in Microsoft Media Player as well as VLC.
My problem is that when I try to insert using Insert Movie and Sound, I get an error window telling me that
The format of the selected file is not supported.

I looked in the help and couldn't find a list of what IS supported.

Can anyone please help me.
Than you for your time and expertise. :D

Is it bizarre to reply to ones own question.

But I got Impress to work when I took the MP4 and converted it to a .avi file. Then Impress imported it and played it perfectly. I used a online video format converter and it came out perfectly.

I will say to developers that I hope that MP4 gets included especially since I would think that it might be the most popular format for many platforms.
I also would recommend that the online help of Impress mentions the acceptable Video formats, it just said that they should work.

However, I'm delighted that converting the format from MP4 to AVI worked.

Thanks,
Jon :super:

Had you bothered to search you would have found [Tutorial] Which video formats does AOO support? just a few threads below your post. You might even have tried using Help which tells you.

And you would have saved a lot of time by not adding your obnoxious post that helps no one.
