Can OO Impress save dimension lines correctly in .ppt format

Post by jrbrearley »

Has anyone found a way to save the very nice dimension line ends in an Impress document in the MS PowerPoint .ppt format?

If the document is in .odp format, the dimension line ends are correctly saved, and still there when the document is opened later on. When the document is SavedAs .ppt, the dimension line ends get converted from vertical bars to oval shapes.

How to reproduce issue:
1) Start OO Impress, create new document, SaveAs .odp format
2) Select the Line Draw tool, draw a horizontal line on the document
3) Right click on the line, on the properties menu choose Line...
4) Click on the Tab called Arrow Styles
5) Click on the drop down menu Arrow Styles, choose Dimension Lines, click OK
6) The horizontal line will now have vertical bars at each end
7) Save and close the document
8) Open the document again and verify the Dimension Line ends are still correctly displayed
9) From the File menu, click SaveAs and select Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP .ppt format
10) Save and close the document
11) Open the new .ppt format document you will see that the Dimension Line ends have been converted to oval shapes

See attached documents for examples.

There is NOT (never was and never will be) 100% compatibility between the International Standard ODF file formats and the foreign, never standardized, obsolete file formats.
Always use the ODF file formats with the Apache OpenOffice and the LibreOffice.
