[Solved] .CSV spreadsheets won't open in 4.6.1

Post by BrianR »

I have a number of spreadsheets compiled using Calc, in the .csv format. They are simply columns of data. since upgrading to 4.6.1 these have refused to open. However, on uninstalling the upgrade and reinstalling 4.5.1, they still wont open. Other spreadsheets are not affected. Attached

is one of the files that won't open - trying to open it gives this
Open Office problem 3 (FILEminimizer).png
. On trying to open a file you get this window
Open Office problem 2 (FILEminimizer).png
. Any help would be appreciated.

I have just discovered that if I create a new .csv file, it works OK.

The file is NOT unicode encoded. Switch from Unicode to "Western Europe" (Windows 1252)"

Yes, but the "Unicode" might refers to UTF-16. It is not a UTF-16 encoded file.

When you open the file you must specify what separators are being used.

Examining the file with Notepad shows it is using commas. So untick everything else, and tick comma.

This is it saved as a .odt.

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.

Thanks for these replies. I have reopened the file and set the character set to Western European 1252 and it now works. Strange that somehow this got changed in all the ,csv files :?
