[Solved] OpenOffice docs defaulting to NeoOffice

Post by Aslansown »

I don't know if anyone else has this issue. I do NOT want my docs to be NeoOffice as I really dislike the program and it gums up everything, though some of my templates are Neo. However, recently when I open an Open Office doc (I really like Open Office) and then save it, it turns into a Neo Office document. I have no idea why or how to correct this issue. I searched the topic and the closest I came was Q33/A33, but NeoOffice doesn't have a "get info" etc. that leads to making a change in default. Does anyone know what's going on?? I use an older Mac OS X 10.7.5, and my Open Office is 4.0.0.
Thanks.

The files are untouched. Set File Associations for the types of file you wish OpenOffice to handle to point to OpenOffice. You could also uninstall NeoOffice if you wished, but may still need to set the File Associations as I have indicated.

Thank you RoryOF. Where do I find "Set File Associations"?
Also, did I somehow do something to create this problem where it had never been a problem before?

This tutorial should tell you how
[Tutorial] Mac FAQ

Why has it happened? Perhaps NeoOffice has silently done an update and asserted ownership of the files. I'm not a Mac use, so cannot say for certain.

The tutorial FAQ was not helpful for this, but I appreciate your willingness to help me!

Did you get as far as Q33/A33, where the solution applies to your situation?
Cheers

Read it again - what part of "When I open an OpenOffice document in Finder it opens in TextEdit (or Excel or some other undesired program). How do I get the document to open with OpenOffice when I use Finder?" does not apply?

I understand only enough to be dangerous. Am trying to find Q33/A33 again to re-read. I am confused by the forum and can't find my way back to Q33.

Ok- I found it and went through the steps, and you are right. It was the fix I needed. I think the explanation was simply more clear from the link I was offered to osxdaily.com, and it included pictures : ) Having been made familiar with the process through that osxdaily link, I easily repeated it when rereading Q33/A33. RoryOF is still a genius, if only because he knew where to point someone like myself who lags behind considerably in computer skills!
