Vexing keyoard problem
Vexing keyoard problem
This just started happening about a wekk ago and never did before. When I hit the Command key to, say, highlight text and switch to and from bold or italic, my text document window starts quickly enlarging. As I'm a writer and editor, this really affects my work, as I have to then reset the window size.
Anyone know how I can stop this? Already trashed and reinstalled Open Office, been through the Preferences and Menus to no avail.
I don't know if this is a factor but am using a PC keyboard on a Mac.

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
Have you deleted or renamed the OpenOffice User Profile? A reinstall does not do so.

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
Where do I find that profile?

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
I have tried multiple approaches (including one above) and places and for the life of me cannot find the Open Office user profile.

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
Is it possible you are inadvertantly using the scroll wheel on your mouse as you hold down the Command key? The equivalent Ctrl + Scroll in Linux will zoom in/out with this combination.

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
Not holding down scrool wheel. Created new user profile. Problem still exists.

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
Please confirm that after you created the new User Profile you were prompted (on nest startup of OpenOffice) for name and initials.

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
It may be that there is a system setting (i.e., outside of OpenOffice) for Keyboard type and layout. You should check that this is correct for your keyboard.

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
Already did and did again. Thanks for all the help. I've tried just about every setting fix to no avail.
OS: High Sierra v 10.13.6; Open Office 4.1.5
Re: Vexing keyoard problem
And did create new User profile a nunber of times, again to no avail. Also having other strange problems. When I open various formatting and setting windows, pull down menus and settings just start scrolling and changing. For instance, when I open under Format the paragraph settings window, the Indent Before Text setting starts scrolling up from 0.00.
I did a virus scan on my computer to see if maybe there's some kind of virus infection.
It's all very strange and I am at my wit's end.

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
Wild guess time: is there a wireless mouse, or keyboard, maybe in a drawer somewhere, turned on and with a dongle still in the Mac?

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
You say "using a PC keyboard" on a Mac; time to either acquire a Mac keyboard or borrow another keyboard, be it Mac or PC, to try.

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
One question we haven't asked - is the keyboard working correctly on the computer outside of OpenOffice?

Re: Vexing keyoard problem
No keyboard issues on other programs. Will now try my housemate's Mac keyboard to see what happens.
Thanks to all for help.
