[Solved] Install AOO Writer spell check with Firefox
[Solved] Install AOO Writer spell check with Firefox
When using Firefox on a computer with MS Word there's a spell check function, probably MS Word, which is the only word processor on that machine. Can someone please advise if it is possible to have OO Writer check spelling when keying screens using Fireox? if so, how is this done? TIA.

Re: Install OO Writer spell check with Firefox
I found information on turning on spellcheck in Firefox here Firefox spellcheck
I think that this may use the same Hunspell dictionaries as OpenOffice.

Re: Install OO Writer spell check with Firefox
What do you mean by "keying screens using FF"?
Firefox uses extensions for spell checking, it is completely independent of any word processor that is installed.
Note that the AOO files however can be used for FF spell check.
If the trouble is with your Writer installation that lacks spell checking, see at the top of the Writer forum, there is a tutorial to fix it.

Re: Install OO Writer spell check with Firefox
The spell checker is a function of Firefox, possibly a default with the program depending on your locale - see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ho ... ll-checker
You can download additional dictionaries from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... age-tools/
I will move this topic to General Discussion as it is not AOO related.

Re: Install OO Writer spell check with Firefox
Thanks. I was advised that spell check was a function of the word processor. By "keying screens using Firefox" I meant screens such as this forum with Firefox as a browser.
I followed the advice in the links, which are not quite what I have, perhaps due to the link screens being slightly dated. My Firefox screen looked like this:
I made no changes - the box was checked. I downloaded the Australian dictionary, still not working ... then it started working. Sorted.

Sometimes installations such as a dictionary need either a program restart or a computer restart. Being old-fashioned - my computer experience going back to 1965 - I will usually restart the computer as a matter of course after any major installation.
